Use case: Installing new equipment

The following process walkthrough describes step-by-step how x:akta can help a mobile operator to install a new Base Station/Node B.

This involves guided planning (physical and logical), radio parameter input, IP generation, visal report generation, installation support and parameter generation.

Step 1 1. A request comes in to set up a new Base Station/Node B.
Step 2 2. A new site site and Base Station/Node B will be required, and is planned in x:akta. The engineer is guided through the necessary steps using templates from the Equipment Library. The equipment is marked as Planned in x:akta.
Step 3 3. Radio parameters are being imported from (GIS) radio planning tools to x:akta.
Step 4 4. The planned Base Station/Node B is automatically modified in x:akta based on the radio parameters.
Step 5 5. Physical connectivity (e.g. cross connects, leased ines, radio links etc.) is planned in x:akta. The engineer is guided through the necessaty steps using x:akta's routing tools. The physical connectivity is marked as Planned in x:akta.
Step 6 6. For 3G networks, the x:akta IP Manager module is used to generate subnets and IP adresses used for the Node B.
Step 7 7. The equipment and connections planned in x:akta are ordered.
Step 8 8. Logical connectivity is generated in x:akta for the traffic and O&M, based on templates. The status of the logical connectivity is marked as Planned in x:akta.
Step 9 9. Visio drawings are dynamically updated by x:akta with color codes for new, modified and removed items and connections.
Step 10 10. Technicians are installing the equipment and connectivity previously ordered. Connections are made based on the Visio drawings generated by x:akta. The equipment and connectivity are marked as installed in x:akta.
Step 11 11. Configuration parameters generated by x:akta are sent to the Base Station/Node B after the BSC/RNC.
Step 12 12. The Base Station/Node B is now configured and activated. The Base Station/Node B is marked as In Service in x:akta.
